Robert F. Russell – 74

GREENWICH - Robert F. Russell of Route 74 passed away at his residence on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. He was 81.

Born in Pittstown on December 8, 1931, son of the late Earl and Bessie (Gate) Russell and husband of the late Joyce Russell who passed away in 1996.

An Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was an auto mechanic working for various garages throughout his life. He enjoyed going to the Racino, dancing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved fishing and being outdoors and would watch the airplanes and boats. He was very meticulous about keeping up his home.

Survivors include his children Robert (Lori) Russell of Buskirk, Barbara (Scott) Havens of Fort Edward, Linda (Herbert) Kitchen of NC, his siblings, John (Georgia) Russell of Troy, Charlie Russell of Hoosick Falls, Evelyn (Hans) Stratton of CA and Charlotte Russell of Cambridge. Also, survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call from 5-7pm on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 9am at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Gerald B. H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery.

Jane Miranda DeSieno – 84

MECHANICVILLE – Jane Miranda DeSieno, 84, of Saratoga Ave., died suddenly Sunday morning, July 14th, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Troy, after being stricken at home.

A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born Sept. 23, 1928, daughter of the late

Ferdinand and Edith Zennaiter Miranda, 1945 graduate of Mechanicville High School.

Jane retired from NYS Dept. of Labor, and previously had been the City of Mechanicville Mayor’s secretary under Mayors Connors and Fascia.  She had also worked at the G. E. and Korell Dress Corp.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville.  Burial inSaratoga National Cemetery.

Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Thursday from 4-7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the John Ahearn Rescue Squad, in memory of Jane P. DeSieno

Mrs. Dorelea R. Cuilla – 88

MECHANICVILLE – Mrs. Dorelea R. Cuilla, 88, of West St., Riverside, died Wednesday morning, July 10th, after a brief illness.

Born in St. Johnsville, NY, August 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Eva Bellinger Lawyer.

Friends are invited to a Burial Service on Monday at 9 AM at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville.

There will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Saratoga National Cemetery Support Committee, in loving memory of Dorelea R. Cuilla.

Michael Anthony Matala-62 and Cynthia J. (Warner) Matala-58

Cynthia J. Warner Matala

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our mother who died at the age of 58 on July 5th.  We'd like to thank the Doctors and Staff at Albany Medical Center for all their efforts and compassion.  Our mom will be deeply missed - and we pray she hears our prayers and feels the love we have for her.  We were blessed to have her love and her spirited ways as long as we did.  Her love of animals, flowers, cooking and nature will never be forgotten.  She leaves behind daughters Hayley Metzger, Jamie Young and Kerri Young, son Anthony Repp her mother Rose Warner and father Charles Warner, sister Nancy and brother Mark.  She also was a beloved grandmother to Tierney Violet Bailey and Sophia Metzger.  She was an incredibly strong woman who will never be forgotten.

 Michael Anthony Matala of Route 40 passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013. He was 62.

Born in Troy on February 10, 1951, son of the late John Matala and Madelyn (Thompson) Matala.

Mr. Matala is a veteran of the U. S. Army. For most of his career he worked as a logger with his father.  He also worked construction and drove truck for Warren W. Fane, Inc. A member of the Round Mountain Rod and Gun Club, he enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He loved his camp and built his home on the same property. On October 22, 2005, that's where he married Cynthia (Warner) Matala.

Survivors include his children, John (Nicole) Matala of Cambridge, Jeremy (Christine) Matala of Schaghticoke, Holly K. Matala-Cipperley of Eflan, NC and Michael J. Matala of Johnsonville.  He was known as Papa Tractor by his grandchildren Kyle Kenneth and Logan Michael Cipperley, Kiera Noelle and Hunter Christian Matala, John Michael and Abel Jacob Matala, and Tierney Violet Bailey.  He is also survived by his siblings Linda Burke of Mechanicsville, MD and Christine (Bill) Neilson of Stillwater.

Relatives and friends may call from 3-7 on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Hoosic Valley Community Church, 2024 State Route 40, Schaghticoke. Memorial service will be conducted at11am on Friday at the church.

Anthony “Tony” Timpanaro – 90

MECHANICVILLE, NY Anthony “Tony” Timpanaro, 90, of Hudson River Rd., died Tuesday, July 2nd, at St. Peter’s Hospice in Albany, after an extended illness.

Born in Hackensack, NJ, December 14, 1922, he was son of the late Mario and Rose Timpanaro.  During WWII, Tony served with the US Army’s 1st Division 26th Infantry, battling their way through the Rhineland to liberate Germany. Tony earned a Purple Heart for combat wounds, and two Bronze Stars in addition to other decorations.

After his military discharge, Tony began working for the US Postal Service in Hackensack, retiring in the early 1980’s.

Mrs. Helen Crouse Staniak – 88

MECHANICVILLE – Mrs. Helen Crouse Staniak, 88, longtime resident of Farm to Market Rd., died Tuesday, June 18th, at Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa, after a brief illness.

Born in Riverside, Town of Stillwater October 28, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Louise Mitchell Crouse.  A homemaker, Helen enjoyed reading, and in particular especially poetry, of which she wrote some prose herself.

Tech. Sgt. Dwaine T. Lesson – 67

MECHANICVILLE – Tech Sgt Dwaine T. Lesson, USAF Ret., 67, longtime resident of Mechanicville, and a winter resident of MacDill AFB, Tampa,Fla., where he and wife served as Family Camp night hosts for the past 2 years, succumbed to a short illness, on Friday, June 14th (Flag Day), at Bay Pines VA Hospice in Florida.

Born in Troy, July 20, 1945, son of the late Felix and Ollie Lee Lesson, he was a 1965 graduate of Mechanicville High School and 1989 grad ofUniversity of Maryland.

Jeffrey G. Minick – 56

Jeffrey G. Minick of Graves Road passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was 56.  Born on February 24, 1957 in Saratoga Springs, son of the late James P. Minick and Natalie (Murray) Minick. He is the husband of Sharon A. Fitzgerald whom he married on March 16, 1982.

Jeff was a chemical operator for General Electric in Waterford for 29 years.

Beverly J. Akin – 49

SCHAGHTICOKE – Beverly J. Akin, 49, of Madigan Road, died Sunday morning, June 9th, at home, after a 11 year battle with breast cancer, in the loving company of her family.

Born in Niskayuna, July 26, 1963, she is the daughter of Dominick DeCocco of Princetown and the late Rita Seuling DeCocco.  She was a 1981 graduate of Schalmont Central School.
