MECHANICVILLE – Arthur M. Carney, 93, of No. Main St., died Sunday morning, August 18, at Samaritan Hospital, Troy.

A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born April 28, 1920, son of the late William and Mary Ryan Carney, he was a 1937 graduate of Mechanicville High School and graduated from Albany Business College.

During WWII, Art enlisted in the US Navy serving aboard ships in the North Atlantic.

After military service, Art began a 43 years career with the Boston and Maine Railroad, as a dispatcher and clerk. Art also worked a number of years at Saratoga Harness.

He and his late wife Betty enjoyed spending winters in Florida beginning in 1981.

He loved camping at Lake George, vegetable gardening, and puttering around his home.

A member of American Legion Post 91, Mechanicville and a communicant of Assumption-St. Paul Church.

Art’s wife Elizabeth Morrissey Carney died May 10, 2010. He was also predeceased by his brother Edward Carney.

Survivors include his children: sons Michael (Anita) Carney of Bradenton, Fla, James “Chas” Carney, Joseph (Janet) Carney and Robert (Flo) Carney all of Mechanicville and

Daughter Marybeth (Brian) Sankel of Clifton Park.  Grandchildren: Renee, Jennifer, Chris, Danielle, Kelly Anne, Mark, Courtnee, Bob, Joe, Steven and Kevin, along with 14 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville.  Burial with military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery.

Calling hours at the No. Main St. Church on Wednesday from 4-7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either the Northeastern NY Assoc. of the Blind or the American Heart Assoc., in memory of Arthur M. Carney.
