Mechanicville Resident Awarded Scholarship

Dover, Del. - Kylie Liberty, a sophomore accounting major from Mechanicville, N.Y., received a scholarship at Wesley College’s Founders Day on March 18. The Reynolds du Pont Endowed Scholarship was established in 1981 by the estate of Reynolds du Pont who was a member of the Board of Trustees from 1962-1973, and served as Chair of the Board from 1973-1980. The recipients of this award are selected by the faculty of the Business Administration Department.?

Mrs. Helen Crannell Colliton – 89

MECHANICVILLE – Mrs. Helen Crannell Colliton, 89, of 180 No. Main St., died Wednesday, March 25th at Rosewood Gardens, No. Greenbush, following an extended illness.

Born in Stillwater February 24, 1926, daughter of the late Leroy and Laura Crannell, Helen lived for many years on Vosburgh Rd.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 5 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Spring burial in Dunning St. Cemetery. Calling hours at the Funeral Home Saturday from 3-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Helen C. Colliton.

Ryan McGrath inducted into honor society at FDU

MADISON, NJ (03/24/2015)(readMedia)-- Waterford, NY resident, Ryan McGrath, a student at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Metro in Teaneck, NJ, has been inducted into FDU's Phi Omega Epsilon for the Fall 2014 semester. Eligibility for membership in the University's senior honor society is established by completing at least 90 earned credits toward an undergraduate degree with a CGPR of 3.50. Of these 90 credits, the last 58 must have been taken at the University, and a CGPR of 3.20 must have been maintained for all of them. All the preceding requirements must have been fulfilled prior to the accumulation of 112 credits. Transfer students who are unable to fulfill the prerequisite 58-credit requirement will be able to establish eligibility if they have taken at least 32 credits prior to the accumulation of 112 credits and if they have maintained a CGPR of 3.50 during their entire career at Fairleigh Dickinson.

Union College students study abroad during spring term

SCHENECTADY, NY (03/23/2015)(readMedia)-- Union students will travel to Cambodia, Italy, England and and many others more as part of the College's spring term study abroad program.

Union College offers a diverse array of study abroad programs for its students. Union is ranked #7 in the country by the Princeton Review for its study abroad program, and about 60 percent of Union students will study abroad during their time at the College.

Alyssa Bonesteel of Melrose, NY, will travel to London, England, studying European government, politics, culture and globalization. Bonesteel is majoring in Political Science and a member of the Class of 2017.

Brandon Jones of Mechanicville, NY, will travel to Sicily, studying the Italian language, history and culture of Sicily and conducting scientific research. Jones is majoring in Biochemistry and a member of the Class of 2016.

Jeffrey Williams of Waterford, NY, will travel to Florence, Italy, studying the Italian language and Renaissance architecture. Williams is majoring in Economics and a member of the Class of 2017.

Clifton Park Native Brian Powell Inducted into International Honorary Marketing Fraternity

Leo W. Frisino – 89

 

VALLEY FALLS - Leo W. Frisino, lifelong resident of Valley Falls passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy. He was 89, the oldest native-born resident of Valley Falls.

Relatives and friends may call from 5-7pm on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street Schaghticoke. Funeral mass will be conducted at 10am on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Transfiguration Parish, Schaghticoke with Rev. Dominic Ingemie officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. John’s Cemetery in the spring.

Felix is a beautiful tuxedo boy that just loves to have his belly rubbed. He is super sweet and friendly. Felix likes to sit near you on the couch and enjoys being pet. He gets along just fine with other cats and would fit in with almost any family. Check out his gorgeous eyes.

Halle is a 4 year old female Shepherd mix. Halle is a great family dog. She loves nothing more than to be with her people. She will greet you with wags and doggy kisses, and if you want to play fetch she's your girl. Halle is exceptional with children. She is very tolerant of little ones who haven't quite learned to be gentle, and revels in running and jumping with older ones in the yard. Halle also does very well with small dogs and can be very gentle when she plays, however, she can sometimes be a bit scared of dogs her own size and needs to be properly introduced before she's ready to play. Halle is spayed, up to date, and has impeccable house manners. She doesn't even counter surf!

Tony Luciano turns 90 – by S. McBride

Proudly saying that he is the oldest and the longest-tenured former government official in the City of Mechanicville, Anthony “Tony” Luciano showed off an array of memorabilia from his years of service to his hometown.  Tony celebrated his 90th birthday on February 28 with a relatively quiet gathering of his multi-generational family.  It was a joyful occasion tempered with deep sadness, as his wife of 66 years, Florence, passed away on January 17.
