A. Nancy Lupo – 84

MECHANICVILLE -  A. Nancy Lupo, 84, of County Route 75, Mechanicville, NY died Thursday morning after a brief courageous battle with cancer in the company of her loving family to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born in Stillwater, NY February 8, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Barbolt Bull.

Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main ST . , Mechanicville on Sunday  from 5-8 PM.   A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at The Church at Newtown Road,142 Lower Newtown Road, Waterford, NY 12188 with burial to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice of Saratoga County and The Wesley Evergreen in Ballston Spa, NY in loving memory of A. Nancy Lupo.

Nancy C. Caswell – 68

STILLWATER – Nancy C. Caswell (nee Notro), 68, of Stillwater, formerly of Albany and a Mechanicville High School graduate, died peacefully at her home on June 23rd.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are being asked to make a donation in Nancy's name to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice of Saratoga.

There will be no services; instead, we ask family and friends to gather at daughter Kim's house at 36 Russell Drive on Saturday, June 25 at 1:00 to celebrate Nancy's beautiful life.

MECHANICVILLE – Mrs. Patricia J. Helnarski, 89, former native of Mechanicville and longtime resident of Hemstreet Park, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17th at her home in Safety Harbor, Florida.

Private services will be held on Saturday, June 25th from 11AM - 1PM with burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Stillwater.

Mechanicville Library Celebrates 50 Years – by Sandy McBride

The Mechanicville District Public Library celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday with a gathering in the Angelo and Jake De Crescente Reading Room at the library.  Trustee Tom Golden introduced Congressman Paul Tonko of the 20th Congressional District who presented a Proclamation from the House of Representatives congratulating the library on reaching this milestone.

Craig Forth & His Homework Academy – by Sandy McBride

At 7 feet tall, Craig Forth is an imposing but friendly presence as he walks the halls of Mechanicville Junior/Senior High School.  The students look up to him, both literally and figuratively.  And so it is, that in chatting with the boys and girls between classes last fall, the assistant principal learned that some of the junior high kids were struggling with their classes, some of them were even faced with potential failing grades.

BALLSTON SPA, June 17 – Back in 1841, 175 years ago, it was a very different world.There had been only eight US presidents. By the end of that year there would be two more. There were only 26 states – Beyond  Missouri  was the western frontier. The first wagon train across that frontier to the California Territory arrived in that year. Horace Greeley (of "Go West, young man" fame) had just begun  publishing the New York Tribune.
