Hillcrest & Mechanicville FD Team Up – by M. LeMay

HALFMOON OCTOBER 5 – On Sunday Hillcrest Fire Department held their long awaited and well deserved open house of their new station. Their doors were open to the public from noon – 5:00 and throughout the day over two hundred people walked through to get tours of the new station, see the apparatus, ask questions and even get a great meal catered by The Ugly Rooster. Town officials spoke and congratulated the Chiefs, Commissioners and members for 50 yrs. of service to their community and thanked them for all that they do on a daily basis for our community. Being a volunteer firefighter isn’t a part time thing were you pick and choose when you leave your home for a call, these men and woman volunteer their time and miss family parties, holidays and get out of bed in the middle of the night to rush off and put their own lives in danger at times to save the lives of complete strangers.

Fire Prevention Week

The Arvin Hart Fire Company would again like to thank everyone for their donations during this year’s fund drive.  We have exceeded last year’s monetary total even though only about 15% of the envelopes sent out were returned.

Fire prevention week is coming up and this year’s theme is Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives, Test Yours Monthly.   In an average fire, do you know how long it takes for your smoke detector to activate, under ideal conditions less than 30 seconds.  The Arvin Hart Fire Co will try something different this year with an open house on Wednesday evening October 15th from 5pm to 8pm.  This does a couple of things, changes the time so as to not take away from resident’s weekend and is a regular training night for our members.  We do hope that you would stop by and see us.  It’s very discouraging when our members try to put together a good program and no one cares enough to show up.  After a while we feel that as long as we show up with the big red trucks, no one cares.  Please just stop by for a few minutes at our main station on Campbell at Kellogg Roads.
