Elizabeth “Betty” DeCelle – 85

MECHANICVILLE - Elizabeth "Betty" DeCelle, 85, died peacefully early Sunday morning at her home, in the company of her devoted family.  Born October 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Charles Burton and Elizabeth Burton MacMurray and step-daughter of James MacMurray.

Betty worked several jobs in her life, serving as a waitress at the former Central Dairy in Mechanicville and a clerk for the Grand Union Distribution Center in Waterford until retiring in 1993.

She was a past president and longtime member of the Mechanicville-Stillwater Little League Women's Auxiliary, member of the Mechanicville High School Football Booster Club, All Saints on the Hudson scripture group, Mechanicville Senior Citizens and a long time volunteer for the areas Meals on Wheels program.

A diehard NY Yankee and Dallas Cowboy fan, Betty also enjoyed pokeno, bingo, bocce ball, cards, cooking and baking. In her younger years, she was a member of the Women's Kegler's bowling league.

A caring person, Betty took care of many people in her life and established an enormous amount of friendships in the community. She will always be remembered for her beaming smile and infectious laugh, her humorous wit and upbeat sense of life.  She was a proud mother, grand and great grandmother who always put her family above all else.

Something Betty would often proudly say was, "I was an only child, but was fortunate to have married into the large DeCelle family.  I have the BEST in-laws."

Sadly, Betty was predeceased by her husband Leon "Frog" DeCelle, who died in 1979.

Survivors include her children: Dawn(Jim) LeClair of Ballston Spa, Doreen(Anthony) DeCrescenzo of Mechanicville and Daniel "Peals"(Jill) DeCelle of Stillwater; grandchildren Janine Iamunno, Vincent(Candace Wallace) Iamunno, Nicole(Adam Suslak) DeCrescenzo, Dean(Jennifer) DeCrescenzo, Aaron and Sean DeScisciolo, and Samantha DeCelle.  She was the proud great grandmother of Talia Suslak and Aleena DeCelle, step-sister of Joan Palmieri and lifelong best friend of Helen Blowers.  She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as an abundance of caring friends she gained through her kindness over the years.
