Brady is an active 3-year old neutered male Border Collie/Lab mix. He is up to date on his shots and micro-chipped. He's a very loving and loyal dog who needs room to run. Brady is house trained and if you place a small bell on the door, he will ring it when he needs to go out! He's good with kids and dogs and crate trained. He would make a family a wonderful companion!

Mum is a beautiful spayed ~ 2-year old female who is up to date on all her shots. Mum is very friendly and gets very excited to see her people (could be you!). She is ok with other cats, though she can be a bit grumpy with them. She and her 3 babies were rescued from living in a store parking lot. Her babies have found homes and Mum now deserves a loving family of her own!

Schaghticoke in 1824 – By Chris Kelley

Over the past month, I’ve discussed the entry for Schaghticoke in Horatio Spafford’s 1813 “Gazetteer of New York.” Mr. Spafford, strapped for money, had ambitions to write many more Gazetteers, covering a wider geographical area, but was only able to produce one other edition, another New York Gazetteer in 1824. He died in 1832.
As one would expect, much of what Spafford published in 1824 was a duplicate of the 1813 edition. Things such as history and land types would be unchanged, one would think, but let’s see what had changed in the entry for Schaghticoke. To begin with, Schaghticoke was now 16 rather than 20 miles from Albany, though still 10 miles north of Troy. My GPS tells me that it’s 19 miles from Schaghticoke to Albany, though who knows where the measurements would begin or end, then or now.

Transfiguration Parish Prepares Meal – Christine Barton

Winter vacation week is traditionally a time for rest and relaxation, but for many local students and Transfiguration parishioners it was a time for giving. A group of volunteers from both sites at Transfiguration Parish spent time during the school break preparing and serving a meal for Bethany House in Troy. The Bethany Hospitality Center merged with Unity House in 2012 and is now known as Bethany @ Unity. The resource center serves a diverse population of people affected by financial struggles. Additionally, they offer community meals and a variety of other human service resources for area residents.

Mechanicville Area Community Services Center, Capital District YMCA establish Saturday Night Middle School Basketball League

or many youngsters, March is all about high school sections, the college championships, and the weather getting warm enough to play hoops (along with lacrosse and baseball) outside.  This March is different, however, because it’s going to get hotter inside, too.

The Mechanicville Area Community Services Center (MACSC) has teamed up with the CDYMCA to host a four-on-four Saturday Night Middle School Basketball League beginning March 8, with the league season running five weeks, until April 5.  There will be a one-week playoff, with prizes to the winners, on April 15.  All games will be played at MACSC (6 South Main Street, Mechanicville) between 7:00-10:00p.m.

The YMCA will be having an open enrollment on Saturday March 1st from 6-8 p.m. for all interested players in grades 6-8 at the Mechanicville Area Community Services Center.

Players accepting membership in the league will pay $50.00 each.
